a letter to me

dear me,
you're currently 15 years old, and smack-dab in the middle of high school. so here's a few things I want to tell you:

don't let the drama get to you. try your very best to stay out of it, but also when it does come up try your very best to handle it maturely - and responsibly. because trust me, drama's gonna come up a lot.

be careful, but not overly careful who you trust. you tend to have trust issues, and that's okay. you're really working on it so good job on that. but just because you have trust issues, don't let that block people out of your life completely. carefully choose who you let in all the way, and what you share with the others.

don't let the rumors bother you. okay so because you have some really awesome guy friends that you're pretty close with, guess what? people are going to start completely false rumors. yeah, they frustrate you because of the false "facts", and how the rumors started, but don't let them bother you. it's not true and if they choose to believe the false rumors, they either don't know you well enough or they just decided to be a pain in the butt. either way - don't let the rumors bother you.

choose friends wisely. this is a time of life where your friends are influencing you quite a bit. so choose your friends wisely. choose the friends that are going to be encouraging your walk with God, not hindering it.

eat lots of food. 'nuff said.

stay close with God. don't let the world effect your walk with Jesus. stay close and drawing closer with God each and everyday. God is, and forever will be the most important part of your life.

respect your parents, and their decisions whether you agree with them or not. you tend to have a bit of a rebellious spirit in you. especially when you disagree with something. do not let that hinder your respect for your parents and their decisions. believe it or not they're really just trying to help you out because yes, they've experienced the teenage years before too.

be content. in every circumstance, no matter what. whether you really wanted that item, or to go to that friend's house, or whatever it may be. be content. always.

be thankful. so this one goes hand in hand with "be content."... always be thankful. you have a warm home, good food, an amazing family, fantastic friends, the list goes on and on. you have so much to be thankful for, so appreciate it. thank God for it.

be patient. things aren't always going to happen the way you think they should happen right away. (sometimes they just wont work out at all... at this point see "be content.") you need to have patience with your friends, family, school, God, and yes, even yourself. patience is very important.

stop with the attention-seeking. it's not about you. you're here on this earth to show Jesus to those around you. so stop thinking about yourself, and start paying attention to the people surrounding you. chances are if you just take a moment to listen, they have a lot to say.

so pay attention, me. there's a lot of things you need to work on, and you wont be able to accomplish them in your own strength. pray daily, asking God for help with accomplishing these tasks, and eventually you will improve. don't forget your purpose either.
sincerely,
you.

  1. That was very encouraging... even though I am 20 years old and am not in high school.
Quite a few of these reminders really hit home with me... being content, and thankful, and patient.
Thank you for posting, from one daughter of God and follower of Jesus to another <3

  2. i'm so thankful that this was encouraging to you, Livvie. i find that being content, thankful, and patient are things that many people struggle with no matter where they are in their walk of life, but it's always especially encouraging to know you're not alone in your growing process.
just think, one day we'll meet in heaven. oh the blessings of being a daughter of God. <3

    xx,
    m.
