||stars|| {a short story}

I glanced through the telescope, and smiled.

The stars had always had always given me a strange sense of euphoria, no matter how bad my day had been. Travis knew this, so maybe that's why he had brought me here tonight.

"C," Trav's voice drew me from my thoughts, and I stepped back from the telescope. "I-I was wondering, well, how you're doing." I looked up, my blue eyes barely meeting his sea-green ones.

"I'll be okay." I felt tears well up in my eyes, as the haunting memories flooded my mind.

"Now Cassandra, we've talked about this before. I don't think Travis is good for y-" My eyes met the headlights approaching us as Mom reprimanded me.

"Mom! Look out!" I shouted as her scream filled my ears. My eyes flung to the back of the SUV, as my eyes met the identical blue ones of my twin, Carson.

He grabbed my hand, as we collided with the reckless Chevy.

 I was pulled from my thoughts as Trav kissed my forehead. I was shaking with sobs as I remembered the last day I saw my twin alive.

"I- I can't get his torn up face out of my mind, his cold hand still grasping mine..." I was crying too much to continue, and Travis pulled me close. Rubbing my back, and whispering soothing words into my ear.

"Shhh, C. I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry." I felt something small, and wet fall into my messy blonde hair. And I looked up into his bloodshot eyes.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't be crying, you're the one grieving, not me." He smiled slightly.

"Hey, no don't think that. Carson was your best friend, we both are grieving." He hugged me tighter at those words.

"I love you, Cassandra." He kissed my forehead.

"I love you too, Travis."
